Andrea Barry-Smith, MSW, LICSW, JD holds over twenty years of experience working in a variety of roles with diverse populations across different settings. Her primary role has been as a social worker in large hospital settings.  As a supportive advocate for clients both in the social work and legal realms, she has intersected with and helped clients navigate multiple systems such as healthcare, child welfare, education, juvenile justice, and family court. 

Early in her career, Andrea worked as a public interest attorney providing civil legal advocacy for youth in the juvenile justice system, helping clients secure education, healthcare, housing and other supports. More recently, as a licensed clinical social worker for over ten years at a pediatric hospital, she held several different roles, all of which involved supporting people during difficult transitional stages: families coping with new diagnoses; resident physicians adjusting to the demands of their medical training; social work students learning how to interface with patients and families; and healthcare personnel seeking strategies for resilience in times of workplace stress. At the core of her practice is a belief in the power of providing space for people to share their stories and to have their voices heard. She has a passion for supporting and mentoring trainees/students as they find their footing at the start of their professional journeys.

Andrea received her JD/MSW from Boston College’s Law School and School of Social Work dual degree program and holds a BA in psychology from Yale University.
